Selecting and importing packages from the EBSCO Knowledge Base

The EBSCO Kb page is where you can search the EBSCO Knowledge Base by package or vendor name. From the list of packages, you can view additional details about each matching package. You can also select or import a package from the list of results.

To select or import packages from the EBSCO Knowledge Base

  1. From any page in the Resources module, click EBSCO Kb from the navigation bar, then search for a package. For more information, see Searching the EBSCO Knowledge Base.

  2. Next to a package that you want to select or import, do one of the following:

    • Under Current Holdings, click Select Package to add the entire package to your library's holdings.

    • Under Current Holdings, click Select & Import Package to add the entire package to your library's holdings, and to import package and title details into the Resources module.

A dialog box displays additional options that let you specify what data to import. For more information, see Fields: Importing packages from the EBSCO Knowledge Base.

Fill out the fields, as required, then click Import to finish.

When you import packages and titles from the EBSCO Knowledge Base, BLUEcloud eRM automatically creates resource records with all of their relevant metadata. This includes:

      • A new resource containing the package's information.

      • Optionally, a new resource for each selected title within the package. Each new resource is associated as a child resource of the package.

Important: Large imports with thousands of titles can take several minutes to complete.

      • A new organization that is associated with each resource as the provider.

Each resource includes the following fields where applicable:

      • Title

      • Description

      • ISSNs or ISBNs

      • Subjects

      • Resource Type

      • URLs

Note: If a title has more than two URLs, each additional URL is added to an access note for the resource. Additionally, the primary and alternate URL are programmatically selected based on the URL's currency (newer URLs are preferred), length of embargo period (shorter periods are preferred), and coverage (longer coverage periods are preferred).

      • Coverage dates and embargo periods

      • EBSCO Kb ID—this allows subsequent import jobs to update the resource information rather than creating a new resource
